Trustfile was founded in May 2000, by experienced business-tax and technology experts. Their vision was to develop a solution that would substantially reduce the burden of business-tax compliance and administration for both businesses and government.

Through its subsidiary Florida Software Inc. (FSI), Trustfile has been at the forefront of electronic business tax preparation, filing (“e-filing”), and payment, helping companies meet federal, state and local requirements since the mid 1980s.

In 1997, when Florida was the first state in the US to issue an e-filing mandate, FSI worked in close partnership with the state to become the first company certified by the Department of Revenue (DOR) to market and sell software that facilitated filing and payment of business taxes with direct dial-up and eventually internet connectivity.

Since then, Florida Software has become the most widely used business tax software in Florida and now serves more businesses and facilitates more electronic tax filings than all of its competitors combined.

Building on this expertise and the ability to establish strong relationships with state DORs, FSI expanded its customer base to include South Carolina and Tennessee business tax filers. The South Carolina product quickly became the most widely used business tax software in the state. Trustfile acquired Florida Software, Inc. in 2001, and continued to expand the company's operations into new states, including Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, with still more states on the way.

This year Trustfile will launch a new single, nation-wide platform that will further simplify business tax preparation, filing and payment, particularly for multi-state filers.

Today, Trustfile boasts roughly 16,000 business customers (including 22 percent of the Fortune 100) and processes approximately $8-billion per year in tax payments. Trustfile is an Avalara company which is headquartered on Bainbridge Island, WA.
